About Us

Pendekezo Letu (PKL) is a Kenyan non-governmental organization founded in 1997 that works to protect, support, and empower marginalized children and youth—particularly those living and working in street situations—and their families. Based in Nairobi and operating in marginalized communities across Kenya, PKL delivers integrated programs in child protection, access to justice, education, and sustainable livelihoods to promote long-term wellbeing and resilience. Through community-driven approaches and strong partnerships, Pendekezo Letu is committed to safeguarding children’s rights and creating lasting, positive change.

Pendekezo Letu is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable children, youth, and families through sustainable programs. Our work focuses on education, livelihoods, and child protection, ensuring long-term impact in the communities we serve.

Our Programs

Cross-Cutting Themes

Safeguarding commitment

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the core of Pendekezo Letu’s work and commitment to protecting the dignity, rights, and wellbeing of every child and vulnerable individual we serve. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, exploitation, and neglect, supported by clear safeguarding policies, reporting mechanisms, and accountability structures across all programs. Our staff, partners, and community actors are regularly trained on child protection and ethical conduct to ensure safe, respectful engagement at all times. Through continuous risk assessment, awareness creation, and community involvement, PKL works to create environments where children and vulnerable populations are protected, heard, and able to thrive safely.

Access to Justice Program

Advocacy

Advocacy is a core pillar of Pendekezo Letu’s work, driven by our commitment to strengthen systems, policies, and practices that protect and promote the rights of vulnerable children and youth. We actively engage in influencing child protection, justice, and social welfare frameworks at community, county, national, and international levels to ensure that the voices of marginalized children are heard and acted upon. Through evidence-based programming, strategic partnerships, and participation in policy platforms, PKL works to address structural barriers, improve service delivery, and advance accountability for child rights and social justice.

Climate Change Adaptation

Climate Change Adaptation

Climate change adaptation is an emerging cross-cutting priority in Pendekezo Letu’s work, recognizing that marginalized children, youth, and families are disproportionately affected by climate-related shocks such as floods, droughts, and resource scarcity. We integrate climate awareness and resilience-building into our community programs by promoting sustainable livelihoods, environmental stewardship, and adaptive coping strategies within households and communities. Through partnerships, awareness creation, and community-led action, PKL supports local capacity to anticipate and respond to climate risks while strengthening long-term resilience in informal settlements and marginalized areas.
